Speech Made by H.E. Mr. Zhang Yiming at Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Prize Awarding Ceremony in Kavango West Region
2018/09/26

Your Worship Erastus Kandjimi, Mayor of Nkurenkuru;

Mr. David Amutenya, SWAPO coordinator of Kavango West Region;

Dear principals of Elcin Nkurenkuru High school and Himarwa Iithete Senior Secondary School;

Teachers, parents, learners and media friends:

Good afternoon everyone! I am very delighted to come to Nkurenkuru once again, the youngest region in Namibia and the sacred place for Namibia independence revolution. I am very happy to award the "Chinese Ambassador Scholarship" to the outstanding learners from two good schools, witnessing the sincere friendship between our two parties and our two countries.

Not long time ago, His Worship Erastus Kandjimi, Mayor of Nkurenkuru visited my embassy, expressed his willingness to build friendly relations with a Chinese city, and also expressed his hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in the field of agriculture and infrastructure. I am very happy to tell you that Luohe City in Henan Province has expressed its intention to establish sister city relationship with Nkurenkuru. The Embassy will follow it up and continue to help promote the friendship between the two sides.

This time, I come to award the scholarship personally with two good reasons. First, I wish to have face-to-face exchanges with so many young learners and hand over the scholarship certificates to brilliant prize-winners. Second, I would like to take this opportunity to further consolidate the traditional close ties between the embassy and Kavango West Region. With the establishment of comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Namibia, deepening local cooperation and strengthening people-to-people exchanges are the right substance of this upgraded bilateral relation.

Besides, dear comrades and learners, I would like to share some exciting news with you. Earlier this month, H.E. President Hage Geingob attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which is the second time visit after President’s state visit to China in March. We signed the “Belt and Road” cooperation MOU during the Summit. It means that China and Namibia will strengthen pragmatic cooperation in more aspects in the future, including promoting the "communication of our two peoples" and deepening educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation.

I appreciate very much the spirit of Your Worship’s noble efforts to strive for more interests for your people. I believe that with such a proactive and enterprising mayor, Nkurenkuru will no doubt enjoy a bright future.
