Remarks by H.E. Mr. Zhang Yiming at the Handing-over Ceremony of Namibia Panda Pack Project
(9:00 a.m. on October 23, Hanganeni Primary School)
2018/11/30

Hon.Cleophas Mutjavikua, Governor of Erongo region;

Ms. Jacqueline Rukamba, Acting Regional Director of Education;

Dear Teachers, parents, learners and media friends,

Good morning! I am very pleased to visit Hanganeni Primary School. This is my second time to attend the Handing-over Ceremony of Namibian Panda Pack Project, which is also the first time outside Windhoek. While standing here, I can feel the learners’ enthusiasm and the teachers' dedication. I believe that today's ceremony is remarkably meaningful, especially when I see your longing eyes and bright smiles.

The Namibian Panda Pack Project was initiated by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) in conjunction with the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture and the One Economy Foundation. China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation is a Chinese NGO and the fund to purchase schoolbags was raised by Chinese ordinary people through the Alibaba online public welfare platform. Though a schoolbag is not very expensive, it embodies sincere friendship and blessings of Chinese people from thousands of miles away. They not only care about your study and living conditions, but also hope that you can study hard and realize your dreams one day. It is my hope that the Panda Pack Project can benefit Namibian learners as more as possible and let everyone truly feel the benefits brought by the China-Namibia friendship.

The reason why the schoolbag is named as "Panda Pack" is that panda is China's national treasure. Panda is honest, fluffy and gentle, standing for peace and unity. The Chinese and Namibian governments and the two people are not only fond of peace, but also highly united during the period of liberation struggle and development times. Therefore, the pandas have the meaning of carrying forward the friendship between our two countries. This year, H.E. President Hage Geingob visited China twice, and the leaders of the two countries met three times. The China-Namibian relationship is entering a new era. I hope that you are able to perceive such friendship from the "Panda Packs", inherit the glorious tradition of forefathers, such as the values of advocating peace and solidarity, and become successors of our friendship when you grow up. I hope one day, you can have the opportunity to visit China and see the cute pandas with your own eyes.

Dear learners, education is the hope of the nation. The Chinese Embassy has always regarded supporting Namibia’s education as an important task. So far this year, I have visited 8 regions and awarded the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship to more than 300 outstanding learners. The Embassy also provides nearly 40 government scholarships and nearly 300 training opportunities to excellent applicants. I believe that in the near future, many of you could win "Chinese Ambassador Scholarship" and even Chinese Government Scholarship. I also believe you will become the mainstay of all walks of life and goodwill ambassadors to promote China-Namibia exchanges.

Dear learners, dreams are the seeds of action. Teacher always asks us what kind of job is your favarite in the future. Some may want to be a scientist, some to be president, some may want to be a millionaire, while others may want to be excellent athletes, teachers, doctors, etc. No matter what you will be in the future, you should never forget your dreams. In the journey to realize your dream, you will have to try hard with sweat and wisdom. Your dreams will finally come true after your unremitting efforts. I believe you will become the hope of your parents, the backbones of Namibian national development and the hope of Africa prosperity. At that time, you will surely be the qualified successors of China-Namibia friendship and realize our dream.

Today’s event has ground-breaking meaning in China-Namibia friendly cooperation because this is the first time that Chinese and Namibian NGOs jointly hold the charity activity. From now on, we will encourage more and more Chinese NGOs to visit Namibia and carry out more extensive and in-depth cooperation with Namibian NGOs, in the fields of education, health and poverty alleviation.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to Hanganeni Primary School and the Government of Erongo Region for your kindly support and assistance to the Panda Pack Project. I sincerely hope that every child will grow up healthily and happily. I wish all of you have a happy childhood, wonderful and successful life!

Thank you!
