Chinese Ambassador-Designate to Namibia Qiu Xuejun hosted the Chinese Lunar New Year Reception

On January 24th 2017, Chinese Ambassador-Designate to Namibia Mr. Qiu Xuejun hosted the Chinese Lunar New Year Reception at the Chinese Embassy in Windhoek. About 300 guests attended the function, including overseas Chinese, representatives from Chinese companies, Confucius Institute, Teacher and Medical Team, the whole staff of the Embassy and Namibian friends.

 

In his remarks,Ambassador Mr. Qiu Xuejun firstly extended his best wishes to all overseas Chinese in Namibia. He pointed out that 2016, as the first year of China’s 13th Five Year Plan, turned to be a rewarding year of both social and economic development. Despite all the challenges at home and abroad, China has been implementing the Five Development Concepts of innovation, coordination, green development, opening up, and sharing, and has achieved a lot in deepening reforms in all areas, maintaining world-leading growth of economy, and improving livelihood of people. The year 2016 has also witnessed China’s robust diplomacy, characterized with confidence and responsibilities. China successfully hosted the G20 Hangzhou Summit, promoted the projects under “One Belt and One Road” Initiative, kept frequent high-level exchanges and safeguarded its territorial sovereignty and maritime interests. China’s Circle of Friends is getting bigger, and the year 2016 has become a year when China has overcome difficulties and made breakthroughs in the diplomatic front.

Mr. Qiu says that 2016 was a fruitful year of China-Africa and China-Namibia relations. The Coordinators’ Meeting of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit was successfully held in Beijing, and China-Namibia all-weather friendship was greatly enhanced by frequent high-level exchanges, growing political mutual trust, fruitful economic cooperation and cultural exchanges, as well as deepening mutual understanding of the two peoples. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will be held in 2017, aiming to further promote the Four-Pronged Strategy, and thus the promising future of China-Africa and China-Namibia pragmatic cooperation could be expected.

Mr. Qiu thanked the Chinese community in Namibia for their contributions to China-Namibia bilateral relations and encouraged them to be better integrated into Namibia and continue to make efforts to promote the traditional friendship, by upholding to integrity, law-abiding, solidarity and shouldering responsibility of serving local society.

           

Entertainment shows by representatives of Chinese companies, Confucius Institute and Chinese communities were warmly applauded. Guests expressed greetings and blessings on bilateral cooperation. The reception was overwhelmed with happiness of biding farewell to the old and ushering in the new in 2017.
