Namibia's SWAPO Party Secretary General Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana on Thursday said her party would strengthen the exchange and cooperation with the Communist Party of China (CPC) in a bid to advance the bilateral relations between the two countries to a higher level.

Ithana made the remarks when meeting visiting Chinese delegation headed by Wang Gang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

"I hope the two parties will deepen the multilateral exchange and cooperation to prompt the friendship relations between the two countries to a new higher level," she said.

Wang said the relations between CPC and SWAPO can be traced back to 1960s. Since then, the two parties have respected and supported each other and have built up the profound friendship. The CPC has attached great importance to the development of the traditional friendship with SWAPO."

Wang said the CPC is willing to work with SWAPO hand-in-hand to maintain the higher-level exchange, to enhance the exchange of experiences in governing the countries as ruling parties, to promote bilateral cooperation and to expand the social bases of the friendship relations through people-to-people exchange.

Wang and his delegation arrived in Wendhoek on Wednesday and began a three-day visit to the southwest African country.
